Types of Muscles:
There are three main types of muscles in the human body:
-
Skeletal Muscle: Skeletal muscles are attached to bones and provide the force needed for voluntary movements such as walking, running, and lifting weights. They are under conscious control and have a striped appearance (striated).
-
Smooth Muscle: Smooth muscles are found in the walls of internal organs such as the digestive tract, blood vessels, and airways. They are responsible for involuntary movements like peristalsis and regulating the diameter of blood vessels. Smooth muscles lack striations.
-
Cardiac Muscle: Cardiac muscle is found in the heart and is responsible for pumping blood throughout the body. It is striated and has properties of both skeletal and smooth muscle but contracts involuntarily.
Each type of muscle has distinct characteristics and functions, allowing the body to perform a wide range of movements and physiological processes.
